This project is part of the on-going widening of the existing Penang Bridge from 2 lanes to 3 lanes. UEM had contacted Megalift to propose and execute a method on how to shift 9 units of the existing emergency lay-by to make way for the new 3rd lane. Megalift then came out with the method of using their hydraulic gantries and skidding system. The hydraulic gantries would be used to jack-up/lift-up the lay-by off of its foundation and onto its new foundation and the skid system would be used to skid the lay-by 4.8m to its new position. The hydraulic gantries were positioned underneath the lay-by, 2 units on each pile cap, and the skid system positioned on top of the gantry.
